Johns Hopkins No. 11 in 'U.S. News' Best Global Universities Rankings

Johns Hopkins University ranks 11th—up one spot from No. 12 a year ago—on the 2017 U.S. News & World Report list of the Best Global Universities Rankings, which were released today.

Among U.S. schools, JHU ranks ninth, tied with the University of Washington in Seattle.

The Best Global Universities rankings, now in their third year, evaluate the top 1,000 research universities from 65 countries. They focus specifically on schools' academic research and overall reputation rather than their separate undergraduate or graduate programs, which are evaluated in the publication's Best Colleges and Best Graduate Programs, respectively.

The rankings are based on 12 indicators , including an institution's global and regional reputation, publications and citations, international collaboration, and number of PhDs granted.

U.S. News also named Johns Hopkins University among the top 10 in the world in six specific subject areas:

Clinical Medicine: No. 2
Social Sciences and Public Health: No. 2
Immunology: No. 3
Molecular Biology and Genetics: No. 8
Neuroscience and Behavior: No. 8
Biology and Biochemistry: No. 9
In the annual U.S. News list of Best Colleges in the U.S., released last month, Johns Hopkins was ranked No. 10. In the Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings, also released last month, Johns Hopkins was ranked No. 17.
