Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, BUiD’s Chancellor, The British University in Dubai held its 11th Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday 23rdNovember 2016 at the Dubai Chamber. H.E. Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of Office of H.H. Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, awarded the Degrees to the graduates on behalf of His Highness. The Ceremony was attended by the University’s Council members, representatives of its UK University partners, academic and administrative staff, and their family and friends.
Amongst the successful students, 13 graduated from doctoral programmes in education and project management, and the first graduates from the MSc Structural Engineering and MSc Engineering Management. Dr. Mariam Alghawi spoke on behalf of all fellow graduates;" Congratulations, your hard work is recognized. However, your hard work is not over yet, it has just begun. We are now members of the scholarly community responsible for putting our expertise to good use, and continuing to grow the knowledge base of the UAE. For myself, I hope that my specialism in Gifted Education will enable me to discover and support the next cohort of BUiD postgraduate students and doctoral graduates.”
37 students were presented with BUiD’s Distinction Awards while Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) Top Graduate 2016 Awards were presented to Ms. Enas Alkhateeb, MSc. Sustainable Design of the Built Environment, and Mr. Alaa Adnan Habrah, MSc. Structural Engineering.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullah Alshamsi expressed his warm congratulations to the new Alumni; “these 207 outstanding men and women will continue to advance the knowledge base of our society and economy in the UAE. The number and quality of our new graduates shows the success of our programmes and progress towards the university’s mission of generating a UAE research culture. I join graduates and their families in celebrating their achievements and a job well done”.

Keynote Speaker, Professor Mona Siddiqui OBE, International Dean for the Middle East, University of Edinburgh and Professor of Inter-religious Studies, commented; ‘A huge honour to be speaking at the graduation ceremony at one of the leading and most creative universities in the Gulf.”
In October 186, new students began postgraduate programmes in the fields of management (business, risk, project, engineering, construction, IT, and education) as well as other specialisms in law, finance, engineering, sustainability, education, computer science, special education, language education, science education, and building design. Graduate (with Distinction) of the MSc Sustainable Design of the Built Environment Mr. Eyad Jumaa Abdaljawad commented, “As a graduate from MSc. Sustainable Design of the Built Environment, it's been a privilege to join BUiD in 2013. The excellent reputation of the university attracted me to join and encouraged me to work towards my degree. I cherish the unforgettable memories of studying, traveling, and all activities I shared with my colleagues and respectful professors”.
