Lauren Hudson, a doctoral student in the Department of Food Science and Technology, researches this foodborne bacterial pathogen, to which immunocompromised populations like pregnant women, newborns, and the elderly are especially susceptible.

UGA Holiday Concerts



December 1 & 2, 7:30 p.m., Hodgson Concert Hall, $25
One of Athens’ grandest holiday traditions returns on December 1 and 2: the UGA Holiday Concerts. The spirit of the holidays will rise to the rafters of Hodgson Concert Hall when the finest musicians at the School of Music—including the UGA Symphony Orchestra, Combined Choirs and more—take to the stage at 7:30 p.m. each night, singing and playing the music of fellowship, joy and love. Tickets are available at pac.uga.edu or the PAC box office for $25.

  • Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program
    The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has announced the Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program, which seeks to increase diversity in the biomedical research community through the recruitment and retention of individuals from groups underrepresented in the life sciences. Fellows receive funding for their postdoctoral training and, if eligible, in their early career years as independent faculty. Applications are due by February 15, 2017. More information can be found here.
  • Dannon Gut Microbiome Yogurt and Probiotics Fellowship Grant
    The Dannon Company, Inc. announces the 5th Gut Microbiome, Yogurt and Probiotics Dannon Fellowship Grant program. As part of its commitment to helping students excel in science, they are offering two $25,000 grants to undergraduate, graduate or postdoctoral scientists who show a strong interest in the research of the gut microbiome’s impact on human health and well-being and/or the nutritional and functional benefits of yogurt and probiotics.   • Georgia Sea Grant seeks applicants for 2018 Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship
    The Georgia Sea Grant College Program is taking applications for the 2018 Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship, which places graduate students for a year in various executive and legislative branch offices throughout Washington, D.C. The fellowship period begins Feb. 1, 2018 and ends on Jan. 31, 2019. A full list of application materials and additional information on eligibility can be found online here. Applications must be submitted to Georgia Sea Grant by 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2017.

    Graduate Admission to the University of Georgia is a collaborative process involving the Graduate School and the graduate faculty of the University. Each department has a designated graduate coordinator who serves as a liaison between the department and the Graduate School and who provides detailed information about program entry requirements, resources and special opportunities.
    Persons holding a baccalaureate degree, or a foreign equivalent, from a regionally accredited institution are eligible to apply for admission to the Graduate School. Regional accreditation is obtained from the following organizations:
