National Autonomous University of México: Our Nobel Prizes and "Príncipe de Asturias"

ALFONSO GARCÍA ROBLES

Nobel Peace Prize
in 1982 

José Alfonso Eufemio Nicolás de Jesús García Robles was a mexican diplomat and politician. He received the peace prize as the driving force behind the Treaty of Tlatelolco, setting up a nuclear-free zone in Latin America and the Caribbean.


MARIO MOLINA

Nobel Prize in Chemistry
in 1995 

José Mario Molina Pasquel y Henríquez is a Mexican chemist and one of the most prominent precursors to the discovery of the Antarctic ozone hole.

OCTAVIO PAZ

Nobel Prize for Literature
in 1990 


Octavio Irineo Paz y Lozano was a Mexican poet, writer and diplomat. He is considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century and one of the greatest Hispanic poets of all time.


PRÍNCIPE DE ASTURIAS

For Communication and 
Humanities in 2009 

The UNAM was recognized with the “Príncipe de Asturias”, the homage surrenders to their ongoing effort to promote “currents of humanistic, liberal and democratic thought in America.”
