University of Michigan: Offices & Committees

Planning for the Bicentennial is a broad and inclusive process; this is everybody’s celebration. The process began in 2011 when President Coleman appointed the Bicentennial Planning Committee. Since then, a Bicentennial Office has been opened and a variety of committees and working groups have been established.

Michigan Bicentennial Advisory Committee

Appointed by the president, the University of Michigan Bicentennial Advisory Committee works with the executive director to advise President Mark S. Schlissel and executive officers in bicentennial planning.

Coordinating Committee

The Bicentennial Coordinating Committee is appointed by the executive director to assist in developing and implementing of bicentennial plans.

Unit Liaisons

The Bicentennial Unit Liaisons connect their respective units and organizations to the central bicentennial planning. They serve to share information about 2017 and to act as point persons for planning within their units.

Student Advisory Committee

The Bicentennial Student Advisory Committee works to increase awareness and excitement among University students for the Bicentennial year and Bicentennial events.

Detroit Festival Host Committee

The Bicentennial Detroit Festival Host Committee advises and assists in the planning of the UMich200 Detroit Festival.

2011-2012 Planning Committee

The Bicentennial Planning Committee was charged with recommending a general framework for bicentennial activities leading up to and including 2017.
